Dr. Rebecca Vieira

Neurologist at the São Paulo State Public Servant Hospital (IAMSPE-SP) Fellowship in Movement Disorders and Botulinum Toxin at the São Paulo State Public Servant Hospital (IAMSPE-SP)

How my story connects with yours:

My name is Rebecca Vieira Teixeira, I was born in Bahia – a state of which I am very proud, and it was there, in the countryside, specifically in Ilhéus, that I lived an experience that changed my destiny. At 13 years old, I needed a Neurologist after having a seizure, and after seeing two professionals, I found inspiration in the third one for the path I would follow. Being treated with such warmth coupled with technical knowledge, I decided that I would become a doctor and a neurologist. From there, it was a long journey ahead.

At 17 years old, I moved to Campos dos Goytacazes-RJ, where I graduated, after 6 years, with great pride, from the Faculdade de Medicina de Campos (FMC). Subsequently, after passing the exams, I moved to São Paulo to pursue my long-dreamed medical residency in Neurology at the São Paulo State Public Servant Hospital (IAMSPE-SP), where I also completed my fellowship (subspecialization) in Movement Disorders and Botulinum Toxin.

For those not familiar, the “flagship” of Movement Disorders is Parkinson’s Disease, but it also includes other conditions that cause tremors, dystonia, chorea, and gait disorders. In this area of Neurology, I have dedicated my time to specialized courses and congresses, always aiming to stay up-to-date and improved to care for my patients.

A humanized perspective through neurology

Essential tremor, dystonia (a condition that causes involuntary muscle contractions, resulting in repetitive movements or abnormal postures), stroke (Cerebrovascular Accident)

Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which involve the progressive deterioration of certain brain functions.

Peripheral Neuropathy: damage to the peripheral nerves, often due to diabetes or other conditions, can result in tingling and/or weakness in the legs.

Multiple Sclerosis: an immune-mediated demyelinating disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It can cause tingling and weakness on one side of the body.

Migraine: Unilateral, pulsating headache, with or without Aura - a sensory phenomenon that can manifest with visual disturbances (such as seeing flashing lights or wavy lines)

Forgetfulness, Pathological Cognitive Decline (When forgetfulness is frequent and severe enough to affect daily activities)
